Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials ran across the track right in his path

The dangerous situation happened on the third rotation when track officials were seen on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to change his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and there were just two individuals running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication somehow but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track marshals can be allowed to just run across the track in that manner. I have no idea why, I'm sure we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is currently investigating the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was notified that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the governing body

"In the third rotation, track officials were informed and placed on standby to access the circuit and clear the fragments once the entire field had cleared the area"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch personnel were withdrawn and a safety warning flag was displayed in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what transpired after that point"
