UK Armed Forces Sites to Accommodate Refugee Applicants in Effort to Terminate Hotel-Based Usage
Several hundred asylum seekers might be housed in military barracks as the authorities aims to phase out the use of temporary lodging.
Negotiations are underway regarding the utilization of two sites - a facility in northern Britain and another in the English south - for shelter for 900 men.
The government leader has directed Domestic Affairs and Military Ministry representatives to expedite efforts to identify proper armed forces locations.
The ruling party has committed to end the use of temporary hotel accommodations, which have required billions in funds and become a focal point for anti-migrant protests.
Planned Military Sites
Migrants might be housed in the Cameron Barracks in Highland region and Crowborough military training facility in southeastern England by the final days of the upcoming month.
Industrial sites, short-term shelter and vacant properties are also being examined for possible utilization.
Authorities Statements
Authoritative figures indicated that every facility would adhere to health and safety standards.
"The government remains extremely concerned at the level of illegal migrants and asylum hotels."
"This government will shut down every asylum hotel. Preparations are advancing rapidly, with better facilities being proposed to ease pressure on local areas and cut migrant housing expenditures."
Present Housing Statistics
Around 32 thousand asylum seekers are at this time being housed in hotel facilities, representing a decrease from a high point of over 56,000 in last year.
A current assessment found that substantial amounts of government revenue had been "wasted" on migrant shelter.
Earlier Military Site Utilization
Two former military sites - the Wethersfield facility in the eastern county and the Napier facility in Kent - are already being utilized to accommodate asylum seekers after being established under the prior government.
The administration head remarked on the developments, saying: "I am resolved to terminate all asylum hotels. Words cannot describe how frustrated and angry the administration feels that we inherited a challenge as big as these developments by the previous administration."
